Barcelona Prepares for Champions League Clash, Targets Liverpool’s Alexander-Arnold, and Shifts Striker Plans
Barcelona is wrapping up preparations for their Champions League showdown against Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park on Wednesday, December 11. Hansi Flick’s squad heads into the match following a 2-2 draw with Real Betis over the weekend.
Barcelona Interested in Trent Alexander-Arnold
According to reports from Caught Offside, Bernabeu Digital, and Barca Universal, Barcelona is eyeing Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold as a potential signing. With his contract set to expire in just over six months, the English defender has yet to agree on an extension with Liverpool.
Real Madrid is also monitoring his situation and hopes to sign him on a free transfer at the end of the season. However, Barcelona is prepared to challenge their rivals in pursuit of Alexander-Arnold.
With Jules Koundé struggling in the right-back role and a lack of depth in the position, Alexander-Arnold’s arrival could be a key solution for Flick’s squad. Club president Joan Laporta reportedly sees this signing as a statement move.
Securing Alexander-Arnold won’t be easy, though. Liverpool is keen on keeping him, while Manchester City is also said to be interested in bringing him in.
Barcelona Ends Interest in Viktor Gyökeres
Barcelona is no longer considering Viktor Gyökeres as a transfer target, per journalist Gabriel Sans (via Barca Universal). While the club is exploring long-term options to eventually replace Robert Lewandowski, the Polish striker is expected to remain at Camp Nou until at least 2026.
Since Lewandowski continues to perform at a high level, signing a new striker isn’t an immediate priority. Any new addition would likely play a backup role, making a move for Gyökeres less likely.
The Swedish forward, currently excelling at Sporting CP with 25 goals in 22 matches this season, has drawn interest from Paris Saint-Germain. However, by 2026, he will be 28 years old, potentially making him a less attractive investment for Barcelona.
Eric García Open to Leaving in 2025
Defender Eric García is open to departing Barcelona in 2025, according to Gabriel Sans (via Barca Universal). He has fallen out of favor at the club, and Barcelona appears willing to part ways next year.
Premier League clubs have shown interest, and coach Hansi Flick has informed García that his playing time will be limited. While Barcelona isn’t blocking his exit, they prefer to keep him until the end of the season, believing he can still contribute.
With his contract running until 2026, García is considering a move to revive his career, and the club is expected to assess offers for him in the summer transfer window.
