Arsenal and Manchester United could be set to battle it out for a massive new signing just hours before the transfer window closes.
Arsenal and Manchester United Set for Deadline-Day Battle Over Dusan Vlahovic
With less than 10 hours remaining in the January transfer window, several top Premier League clubs are still working on last-minute deals to bolster their squads.
Arsenal and Manchester United have both had relatively quiet transfer windows, with United securing the only notable signing so far. However, a new report suggests that the final hours of the window could see both clubs go head-to-head for a marquee signing.
Both teams have prioritized signing a forward this month, leading to links with some of Europe’s most promising goalscorers. Now, according to TBR Football, Arsenal and United have expressed interest in Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, who could be available before the deadline.
Vlahovic’s current contract with Juventus runs until June 2026, but negotiations over an extension have reportedly stalled. This situation has alerted the Premier League giants, who see an opportunity to strike a deal before the window shuts.
Juventus is eager to extend Vlahovic’s stay in Turin, but the club faces financial challenges, and his high wages could be a factor in their willingness to negotiate. Following Paul Pogba’s departure in November 2024, Vlahovic became Serie A’s highest-paid player, earning €373,846 (£310,385) per week, according to Capology.
As the clock ticks down, Arsenal and United must decide whether to make a late push for Vlahovic or risk missing out on a key attacking reinforcement for the second half of the season.
Despite being in negotiations for over a year, Dusan Vlahovic has reportedly rejected Juventus’ offer of a wage reduction as part of a new contract, making a transfer—either this month or in the summer—seem increasingly likely.
This has sparked interest from both Arsenal and Manchester United. Arsenal, having lost Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus to injuries, is eager to strengthen their attack, while United looks to replace the underperforming young forwards Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee.
Both Premier League clubs were also keen on signing highly-rated Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel. However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Tel, who had rejected both Arsenal and United earlier in the window, has now agreed to join Tottenham Hotspur on deadline day.
