It looks like Hansi Flick is making some bold decisions at Barcelona, and the exclusion of Ronald Araujo is definitely a major statement. Araujo has been one of the club’s best defenders in recent years, so seeing him drop down the pecking order in favor of Pau Cubarsí, Eric García, and Iñigo Martínez is surprising.
Flick’s preference for ball-playing defenders makes sense from a tactical standpoint, but Araujo’s defensive qualities and leadership are hard to replace. If he continues to be sidelined, the rumors of a summer exit could gain traction, especially with Premier League clubs keeping an eye on him. Given Barcelona’s financial struggles, a big-money sale might be tempting.
Do you think Barca should sell Araujo, or should Flick find a way to integrate him into the system?
