Chelsea are reportedly considering making a massive move for a Liverpool star who has already admitted he wants to leave the club.
Unlike their usual aggressive approach in the transfer market, Chelsea opted for a quiet winter window, refraining from making any new signings despite their already large squad. Instead, the club prioritized player departures, sending key names like Ben Chilwell, João Félix, and Axel Disasi out on loan while also offloading several young talents.
However, as the summer of 2025 approaches, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca appears to be planning significant moves, with reports suggesting he has his sights set on a key Liverpool player.
On Thursday night, Liverpool secured a place in the 2025 Carabao Cup final with a dominant 4-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the second leg of their semi-final, sealing a 4-1 aggregate victory. One of the standout performers throughout Liverpool’s domestic cup run has been Irish goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher, who has consistently delivered strong performances.
According to TBR Football’s chief correspondent Graeme Bailey, Chelsea is among the clubs monitoring the 26-year-old ahead of a potential summer transfer. Despite Kelleher’s reliability over the years, he is expected to leave Anfield as Liverpool prepares for the return of Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from his loan spell at Sevilla.
With Chelsea struggling to find a consistent first-choice goalkeeper—following inconsistent performances from both Robert Sánchez and Filip Jörgensen—Maresca is reportedly considering Kelleher as a solution to their ongoing goalkeeping issues.
With Caoimhín Kelleher previously expressing his desire to leave Liverpool in search of regular first-team football, Chelsea could see him as the ideal solution to their goalkeeping concerns.
Speaking in a press conference while on international duty with the Republic of Ireland in September, Kelleher made his ambitions clear:
“I made it clear in the last few years that I want to go somewhere and be a number one. The club has made that decision to get a goalkeeper (Mamardashvili), which makes it look like they’ve made a decision to go another direction.
“Liverpool have rejected a few bids as well. It’s not always in my hands to fully make the decision. My ambition is clear. I’m good enough & I want to go and play week in, week out.”
While Chelsea appear to be a strong contender for his signature, they are not alone in their pursuit. Bournemouth, Newcastle United, and Celtic are also reportedly considering a move for the Irish shot-stopper ahead of the summer transfer window.
