Frenkie de Jong Pushes Marc Casado Out of Hansi Flick’s Plans
Barcelona’s midfield dynamics have shifted as Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong’s resurgence has come at the expense of Spanish youngster Marc Casado.
According to Marca, Casado has seen his role diminish following De Jong’s return to the starting lineup. After struggling for minutes earlier in the season, the Dutchman has regained confidence and seized the opportunities given to him by coach Hansi Flick, becoming a key figure in the team.
In just two weeks, De Jong has cemented his place in the starting XI, featuring in four of the last five matches. The only exception was against Deportivo Alavés, where he came on in the second half to replace Casado.
Flick’s trust in De Jong has grown significantly. Before January 26, the Dutchman had started just four matches, and his delayed return from an ankle injury had strained his relationship with Barça fans. However, he has since won back their support with strong performances.
So far this season, De Jong has played 1,006 minutes across 23 matches, contributing two goals and one assist. His return has reshaped Barcelona’s midfield, leaving Casado struggling for opportunities.
