Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has created another piece of Premier League history in the first half of the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.
Salah Sets New Premier League Record as Liverpool Battle Back Against Everton
Everton stunned the league leaders with an early breakthrough, as Beto latched onto a clever free-kick routine to slot past Alisson Becker just 11 minutes into Wednesday night’s Merseyside derby, sending Goodison Park into celebration.
However, Liverpool responded swiftly. Just five minutes later, Alexis Mac Allister produced a stunning header past Jordan Pickford to restore parity. Mohamed Salah delivered a pinpoint cross from the right flank, allowing Mac Allister to arrive late in the box and guide the ball into the far post.
In setting up his 14th assist of the seasonâa personal bestâSalah also etched his name into the Premier League record books once again. The Egyptian forward, who is out of contract this summer, is now the first player in league history to be directly involved in 22 away goals in a single season, with 13 goals and nine assists in just 13 road games.
Salah Breaks Premier League Record as Contract Uncertainty Looms
Mohamed Salah has surpassed a long-standing Premier League record, previously held by Andy Cole, who was directly involved in 21 away goals for Newcastle during the 1993/94 season. With 14 games still to play, Salah has already contributed to 22 away goals (13 goals, 9 assists) and could be on course for his best individual season since joining Liverpool in 2017.
Salah is also leading the Premier League assist charts with 14, ahead of Bukayo Saka and Antonee Robinson (both on 10). Across all competitions, he has an astonishing 48 goal contributions, further cementing his status as one of the leagueâs most dominant attackers.
Uncertainty Surrounds Salahâs Future at Liverpool
Despite his record-breaking performances, Salahâs long-term future at Liverpool remains uncertain. His contract, along with those of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, is set to expire this summer, raising concerns about a potential high-profile departure.
Former Liverpool defender and close friend Dejan Lovren has shed light on the situation, suggesting that Salah feels the club isnât meeting his expectations in negotiations.
“Salah believes there are things missing from the clubâs side, and I hope it will be resolved soon,” Lovren told WinWin. “Right now, he is closer to leaving than staying. I feel the club doesnât respect him as much as he thinks he deserves, but thatâs another discussion.”
Despite the contract standstill, Lovren emphasized Salahâs deep love for Liverpool, stating that the Egyptian forward wants to stay and could even see himself retiring at Anfieldâif an agreement is reached.
