Real Madrid appears to be setting its sights beyond just Trent Alexander-Arnold in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Madrid’s Growing Interest
Although nothing is confirmed, Alexander-Arnold has yet to sign a contract extension with Liverpool ahead of its expiration in June. He’s not alone in that uncertainty—both Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk also remain without new deals as the summer approaches.
While reports suggest that Real Madrid is not keen on signing Van Dijk, they are reportedly monitoring his defensive partner, Ibrahima Konaté, who has earned significant respect for his performances.
Konaté Responds to Madrid Links
Speaking on rumors of Madrid’s interest, Konaté, whose contract runs until 2026, admitted feeling flattered but remained focused on the current season.
“To hear big clubs like that are showing interest in me is very flattering! Now I’m focusing on this season, giving it my all, and I’ll let my agents take care of the rest,” he told journalist Paul Gorst.
A Potential Defensive Crisis for Liverpool
Liverpool could face a nightmare scenario if Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, and Salah all depart at the end of the season. Losing Konaté in 2025/26 would only add to the crisis, particularly with the club already needing defensive reinforcements.
Despite the uncertainty, Konaté is reportedly happy at Anfield and open to extending his contract. However, it seems any potential renewal will be on his terms—a justified stance given his strong performances this season.
