Hansi Flick Criticizes Lewandowski’s Reaction to Substitution in Barcelona’s Win Over Rayo Vallecano
Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick voiced his frustration over Robert Lewandowski’s reaction after being substituted during their La Liga match against Rayo Vallecano.
The game, held at Montjuïc Stadium on Monday, February 17, as part of La Liga’s 24th round, saw Barcelona secure a 1-0 victory. Lewandowski scored the decisive goal in the 28th minute from a penalty awarded after a foul on Iñigo Martínez.
In the 81st minute, Flick decided to replace the Polish striker with Ferran Torres, a decision that visibly frustrated Lewandowski as he left the pitch.
When asked about the striker’s reaction in the post-match press conference, Flick responded firmly: “Lewandowski always wants to score and win, but ultimately, I make the decisions for the team, not individuals.”
He added, “It’s not his call. I always support him and give him opportunities to start, and I’m pleased with his performance today. But when it comes to substitutions, my decisions stand, and players must accept them.”
Despite the incident, Lewandowski continues to lead the La Liga scoring charts with 20 goals, maintaining a three-goal advantage over Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé.
