Barcelona currently tops La Liga with 51 points, edging out their arch-rivals Real Madrid on goal difference. As the club continues its pursuit of silverware, management is actively planning summer transfer moves to strengthen the squad while also preparing for potential departures.
According to El Nacional, Ronald Araujo’s future at Barcelona, once considered secure after his contract renewal, has become increasingly uncertain. The Uruguayan defender was on the verge of joining Juventus in January, but unexpected circumstances altered the situation. An injury to Iñigo Martínez during the Spanish Super Cup final against Real Madrid forced coach Hans-Dieter Flick to rely on Araujo, halting his transfer negotiations.
Initially, Araujo and Pau Cubarsí emerged as the team’s primary center-back options, prompting Barcelona to reconsider his importance and offer an extended contract. However, recent performances have led to a shift in the pecking order, with Flick favoring Iñigo Martínez and even Eric García over Araujo. This change has reignited speculation about his potential exit.
With Barcelona open to offers and confident they could secure up to €80 million for him, Araujo is now considering his future. He has reportedly told close teammates that he is ready to leave unless he is assured of a more significant role. Juventus remains a strong contender for his signature, but other top European clubs, including Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayern Munich, have also expressed interest.
