Speculation is growing about potential moves in the upcoming transfer market, with Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong being top targets under Xabi Alonso’s plans, should he take over as Real Madrid manager on July 1, 2025.

With Carlo Ancelotti’s future still uncertain and Real Madrid’s current situation, the club is expected to strengthen its squad, particularly in key positions. While several players have been linked with a move, the left-back position appears to be a growing priority.

In this regard, 29-year-old Alejandro Grimaldo, who has excelled under Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen, is emerging as a potential target for Real Madrid. A former Barcelona player, Grimaldo has significantly improved in Germany and is now being considered for a move to the Santiago Bernabéu. His potential transfer is gaining traction, especially as reports indicate that the pursuit of Alphonso Davies is losing momentum.

Grimaldo has repeatedly expressed his desire to play in Spain, acknowledging Real Madrid as one of the world’s top clubs and a team he would be eager to join. However, the transfer presents challenges. Due to Real Madrid’s financial approach, his estimated price of around €40 million could pose budgetary concerns.

Furthermore, Grimaldo would face competition for the left-back role from Ferland Mendy, Fran García, and Miguel Gutiérrez, all of whom are strong alternatives.

Even so, Xabi Alonso’s high regard for Grimaldo, both at Leverkusen and possibly in Madrid, could influence Real Madrid’s decision—especially if Alonso returns to Spain.
