Barcelona Targets André Ratiu as Kounde’s Replacement
One of Barcelona’s main objectives in the upcoming transfer window is to sign a new right-back, as Jules Kounde is expected to be replaced. Coach Hansi Flick has not been fully convinced by Héctor Fort, who has played significantly fewer minutes than Kounde—370 compared to the Frenchman’s 2,070 in La Liga. As a result, the club is looking for a more reliable option, which could also allow Fort to go out on loan.
André Ratiu: A Strong Contender
According to the Catalan newspaper Sport, Barcelona is closely monitoring André Ratiu, Rayo Vallecano’s full-back. Sporting director Deco has been following his performances for weeks, considering him a solid candidate due to his physical strength and strong defensive capabilities.
Ratiu gained recognition last season for his exceptional marking of Vinícius Júnior in a match against Real Madrid, where he effectively neutralized the Brazilian star, preventing him from scoring or assisting. His ability to shut down fast wingers, combined with his speed—one of the highest recorded in La Liga this season—makes him an attractive option for Barcelona.
Defensive Strength with an Offensive Edge
While known for his defensive solidity, Ratiu also contributes offensively. This season, he has scored two goals and provided two assists. However, Barcelona may need to meet his €25 million release clause, as Rayo Vallecano appears unwilling to negotiate a lower price.
A Decade-Long Right-Back Problem
Despite Kounde’s consistent presence at right-back, Barcelona has struggled to find a long-term solution for this position over the past decade. If signed, Ratiu could finally provide stability and balance in this crucial role.
