Liverpool fans were left less than happy with one player in the build-up to PSG’s goal against them in the Champions League last 16 clash at Anfield.
Arne Slot’s team entered the match with a 1-0 advantage from the first leg, thanks to Harvey Elliott’s late winner in Paris. Despite PSG dominating that encounter, Liverpool held firm, largely due to Alisson’s outstanding goalkeeping display, which saw him make several crucial saves.
However, at Anfield, the Brazilian goalkeeper had no chance to stop PSG’s early equalizer. Ousmane Dembélé sparked a rapid counterattack and finished it off himself, slotting the ball into the net from close range.
PSG winger Bradley Barcola delivered a cross intended for Ousmane Dembélé, but Ibrahima Konaté attempted to cut it out. However, his interception was weak, and the ball deflected straight into Dembélé’s path, allowing him to score an easy goal.
Fans were quick to criticize Konaté for his role in the goal. One remarked, “Konaté with the best assist you’ll see to Dembélé.” Another added, “Alisson had that covered.”
Virgil van Dijk also came under scrutiny, with some pointing out his questionable positioning. Both he and Konaté kept Dembélé onside, making it easier for PSG to capitalize. One fan commented, “Konaté has to cover the channel side. I have no idea what VVD is doing there.”
Despite the setback, Liverpool maintain an impressive record at Anfield in the Champions League, having not lost there since their 5-2 defeat to Real Madrid in 2023. Under Arne Slot, the Reds have only suffered one home defeat in any competition—a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest in September, which remains their only Premier League defeat this season.
