Carragher Demands Changes After Liverpool’s Carabao Cup Final Defeat
Liverpool’s 2-1 loss to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final has sparked strong criticism, with former club legend Jamie Carragher calling for immediate changes. Goals from Dan Burn and Alexander Isak secured victory for Eddie Howe’s side, leaving Liverpool’s attacking players struggling to make an impact. Federico Chiesa managed a late consolation, but it wasn’t enough to spark a comeback.
Carragher’s Criticism of Liverpool’s Attack
Speaking to Sky Sports, as reported by Metro, Carragher slammed Liverpool’s attacking options, highlighting a lack of pace and creativity.
“They’ve been fantastic this season, but this game exposed key weaknesses. Salah isn’t getting enough support, and the front line looks ineffective,” he said.
While acknowledging the quality of players like Diogo Jota, Luis Díaz, and Darwin Núñez, Carragher insisted that they are not at the level required to consistently support Salah.
“They’re good, but not great. If Liverpool want to compete at the highest level, they need to sign two top attackers this summer,” he added.
Liverpool’s Overreliance on Salah
Carragher’s comments reflect growing concerns about Liverpool’s dependency on Mohamed Salah. When he struggles, the team lacks another consistent goal threat. With Liverpool aiming to maintain their dominance, investing in attacking reinforcements during the summer transfer window could be crucial.
