Liverpool have reportedly already made a decision on Federico Chiesa’s future.
Chiesa Struggles for Game Time at Liverpool Despite Slot’s High-Flying Squad
Federico Chiesa, who joined Liverpool from Juventus in the summer of 2024 for £10 million plus £2.5 million in add-ons, has found opportunities limited under Arne Slot. Despite the team being on course for a Premier League title, the Italian winger has played just 25 minutes in the league, with most of his 11 appearances coming in cup competitions.
Limited Role Despite Decent Output
Although Chiesa has registered two goals and two assists in his appearances, he remains on the fringes of the squad. Slot has frequently opted for players like Darwin Núñez and Harvey Elliott when making attacking substitutions, leaving the 27-year-old struggling for minutes.
Slot Explains Selection Challenges
Speaking earlier this month, Slot shed light on why certain players find it difficult to break into the starting lineup. He explained that with Liverpool’s congested fixture schedule, non-regulars rarely get the chance to train alongside the first team in high-intensity sessions.
“If we play on Saturday and then on Tuesday again, then on Sunday the ones that played only do a recovery session, so they’re not on the pitch. Then the day before the next game, we only have light tactical training. So there’s hardly a moment for these players to truly compete with the starters.”
However, Slot emphasized that players can still impress during post-match training sessions, where coaching staff closely monitor individual performances to assess progress.
Chiesa’s Future at Liverpool Uncertain
With limited opportunities in the league, Chiesa’s long-term role at Liverpool remains unclear. While his talent is undeniable, breaking into a team performing at such a high level continues to be a challenge. The coming months could be crucial in determining whether he remains part of Slot’s plans or seeks more regular football elsewhere.
Chiesa Set for Liverpool Exit Amid Napoli Interest
Federico Chiesa’s future at Liverpool appears uncertain, with reports suggesting the club has decided to part ways with the 27-year-old winger. According to Football Italia, Liverpool are prepared to offload Chiesa, who has struggled for regular game time under Arne Slot.
Napoli Leading the Chase
Antonio Conte’s title-chasing Napoli have emerged as frontrunners to sign Chiesa, with the former Chelsea boss reportedly viewing him as a valuable addition to his squad. Napoli’s attacking depth could benefit from Chiesa’s versatility and experience, making a return to Serie A a realistic option.
Spalletti Backs a Serie A Return
Italy head coach Luciano Spalletti is also said to support Chiesa’s move back to Italy, believing it could help him regain top form ahead of the 2026 World Cup. A regular role in Serie A could boost his chances of playing a key role for the Azzurri in the coming years.
Potential Transfer Details
Chiesa is currently valued at £15.2 million by Transfermarkt and remains under contract with Liverpool until June 2028. While Liverpool paid £10 million (plus £2.5m in add-ons) for him, they could look to recoup a profit if Napoli or another club makes an offer.
With limited opportunities at Anfield and interest from Italy growing, a move away from Liverpool this summer seems increasingly likely for Chiesa.
