Liverpool NewsTrent Alexander-Arnold reveals why he left Liverpool to sign a five-year deal with Real Madrid

Trent Alexander-Arnold has explained the reasons behind his decision to leave Liverpool and join Real Madrid on a five-year deal.

Reports confirm that the transfer has been finalized, with Real Madrid securing the Liverpool star on a long-term contract. Sources indicate that Alexander-Arnold has reached a full agreement with the Spanish club, making the move official.

His potential departure had been widely speculated, especially as his contract—along with those of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah—was set to expire at the end of the season. However, at just 26 years old, Alexander-Arnold attracted more interest than his teammates.

Liverpool acknowledges that letting him go means losing several prime years of his career, while Real Madrid sees an opportunity to benefit from his talents for the long term. The Spanish giants had previously attempted to sign him in January, which would have allowed Liverpool to receive a transfer fee, but the club rejected the offer and ultimately lost that chance.

Reports suggest Liverpool made multiple contract offers to retain Alexander-Arnold, but he turned them down each time. According to Sky Sports’ Sacha Tavolieri, these efforts were unsuccessful, and his move to Real Madrid is now confirmed.

Alexander-Arnold is set to earn €15 million (£12.5 million) per year, a salary comparable to a significant transfer fee. Real Madrid has the financial flexibility to offer higher wages since they are not paying an actual transfer fee for him. At this stage, nothing is expected to change his decision.

Additionally, Real Madrid’s acquisition of Alexander-Arnold could influence Liverpool’s defensive plans. The Reds have reportedly been evaluating Bournemouth center-back Dean Huijsen as a possible signing. However, Real Madrid is now working on securing Huijsen, who is reportedly eager to return to Spain.
