Carlo Ancelotti has reportedly entered talks to leave Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid.
In December 2023, Carlo Ancelotti signed a new contract extending his stay at Real Madrid until the summer of 2026.
However, the Italian manager has previously been linked with a move away from the Spanish capital.
On Wednesday afternoon, reports surfaced that the 65-year-old had entered discussions about leaving Madrid. According to Globo, Ancelotti has resumed talks to become the manager of the Brazilian national team.
On social media, they stated: “The CBF (Brazilian FA) has re-established contact with the goal of appointing Carlo Ancelotti as the national team coach for the 2026 World Cup. The Real Madrid manager was receptive but made it clear that any further discussions would have to wait until after the Club World Cup.”
Spanish outlet Relevo corroborated Globo‘s report, confirming that any potential move would not take place before this summer’s Club World Cup.
Back in January 2024, Ancelotti acknowledged that he had been in talks with Brazil. He stated: “The reality is what everyone knows. I was in contact with the [now former] president of the Brazilian federation, Ednaldo Rodrigues. I appreciate his interest and kindness—it made me very proud. But as is well known, my decision depended on my situation at Real Madrid. I’m grateful for the interest, but ultimately, things worked out as I wanted: staying here.”
Expanding on his future, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti made it clear that he has no intention of deciding when he will leave the club. He stated: “I want to be very clear: I will never decide the date of my departure from this club in my life. I know perfectly well that it will come one day, but I will not decide that day.”
Meanwhile, Brazilian football legend Ronaldo Nazario shed light on Ancelotti’s past links to the Brazil national team. Speaking to Charla Podcast (via MARCA), he said: “It was not a fantasy because I helped in the process by talking to Carlo, but he was not released. Real Madrid did not let him go. After negotiations, everything stalled because he didn’t have Madrid’s approval. If he hadn’t won anything, Real Madrid would have fired him, and Ancelotti would have taken over. But he won the Champions League and stayed for another year.”
Brazil’s struggles in World Cup qualifying continued on Tuesday night as they suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat to arch-rivals Argentina, leaving them fourth in the South American standings for the 2026 tournament.
