Deco held talks with Alexander-Arnold over potential Barca move

Barcelona were reportedly very interested in signing Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold but ultimately missed out on the opportunity.

The Catalan club had been monitoring Alexander-Arnold’s career for years and had considered signing him multiple times. During Xavi Hernández and Jordi Cruyff’s tenure as sporting directors, the English defender was already on their radar.

According to reports, current sporting director Deco even met with Alexander-Arnold’s representatives to explore a potential transfer. However, financial constraints, the club’s need to prioritize other positions, and Jules Koundé’s strong performances at right-back ultimately prevented the deal from materializing.

Alexander-Arnold has previously spoken about his admiration for Barcelona, praising their commitment to youth development and attacking football. Despite this, it now appears he is set to join Real Madrid as a free agent when his Liverpool contract expires in June.

Meanwhile, Barcelona goalkeeper Iñaki Peña has reportedly informed the club of his desire to leave this summer.
