Liverpool’s long wait to recover from their most disappointing week of the season continues. The Reds endured a loss in the Carabao Cup final and a heartbreaking elimination from the Champions League before their extended break.
Having already been knocked out of the FA Cup, it means that Liverpool, the leaders of the Premier League, will have gone 17 days since their loss to Newcastle United at Wembley before returning to action. Their next match will be a Merseyside derby against Everton at Anfield on Wednesday, April 2. This final derby of the season is a crucial opportunity for the league leaders to extend or maintain their 12-point advantage over second-placed Arsenal.
Arne Slot’s squad should be refreshed due to their upcoming free weekend. However, there are questions about how many players will be available for the Blues’ visit.
Goalkeeper Alisson Becker was substituted during Brazil’s win over Colombia early on Friday morning after suffering a suspected concussion. Brazil’s team doctor, Rodrigo Lasmar, explained: “Becker suffered a blow to the head and was replaced due to suspected concussion. We will follow the CBF protocol, conducting imaging tests including a CT scan and an MRI with diffusion. If all tests are clear, we’ll proceed with a cognitive test before evaluating the player further.”
Following this, Liverpool issued a statement confirming that Alisson would return to Merseyside for further assessment by their medical team. Alisson also reassured fans on social media, saying: “Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know I’m fine. I just need to follow the protocols. Thanks for your messages.”
Liverpool’s manager, Arne Slot, is expected to provide an update on Alisson in his press conference ahead of the Everton match next week.
Defenders Joe Gomez (hamstring), Trent Alexander-Arnold (ankle), and Conor Bradley (hamstring) will not be available for the Everton game due to their injuries, meaning Jarell Quansah is likely to start at right-back.
Midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, along with several other players, has looked fatigued recently after a demanding season.
