Antony ‘grateful’ to Man Utd despite ‘difficult times’, resurgent star gives verdict on £86.3m transfer

Antony believes that Manchester United saw enough potential in him to justify the £86.3 million transfer fee they paid to Ajax in 2022.

The 25-year-old winger struggled at Manchester United and has since been loaned to Real Betis for a six-month deal.

It seems that Antony feels a weight has been lifted off his shoulders after leaving Old Trafford.

The Brazilian quickly found form at Betis, scoring four goals and providing four assists in his first 11 appearances for the club.

His strong performances could prompt Betis to attempt a permanent transfer, depending on whether they can afford to meet Manchester United’s asking price.

Time will tell if other clubs show interest in Antony after his impressive spell in La Liga. A similar situation occurred with Mason Greenwood, who spent a year at Getafe before making a permanent move from United to Marseille.

Antony Appreciates Manchester United Experience

Now that Antony is enjoying football again, he has reflected on his time at Old Trafford, acknowledging that United believed in his talent to justify the hefty fee.

The £86.3m transfer placed additional pressure on Antony, which seemed to affect his performances at United.

Frequently reminded of his price tag, Antony can now focus on his game and let his performances speak for themselves, something he struggled to do in United’s first team.

“If they pay that kind of money for you, it’s because you have talent and quality,” Antony told DAZN, as reported by Goal. “Wherever I go, I’ll always speak highly of United.

“I’m very grateful to the club and to Erik ten Hag for everything we went through together, the titles, and all I learned. I had tough moments, but also many good ones.

“I believe it prepared me to be where I am today, enjoying myself. My focus is here, and I’m very happy.”

Antony Embracing Life in Spain at Real Betis

With transfer rumors likely to swirl around Antony this summer, he has made it clear that he’s enjoying his time in Spain.

Antony notes the similarities to Brazil, such as the fantastic weather, which made his transition easier compared to his time in Manchester.

He added, “I needed to find myself and be happy. I wanted my family to be happy too. Every day I realize it was the best decision I could have made.

“I’m enjoying the city, the club, and everything. It reminds me a lot of Brazil because of the sun, the food, and the people, who are all very cheerful. That’s important for someone like me who’s used to it.”

Ben Foster Issues Warning to United

Former goalkeeper Ben Foster warned that United might need to pay over £12 million in compensation if Antony leaves this summer.

All eyes will be on Antony during Sunday’s La Liga derby between Betis and Sevilla.
