Chelsea in ‘constant contact’ to secure summer move for AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has expressed frustration with the lack of quality in his goalkeeping options. Robert Sanchez has been the preferred choice for much of the season but has struggled to impress, while Filip Jorgensen has also failed to capitalize on opportunities to overtake the former Brighton keeper in the Premier League.

A new goalkeeper is expected to be brought in this summer, and according to TEAMtalk journalist Rudy Galetti, Chelsea is considering a move for AC Milan’s Mike Maignan. The club has been monitoring the French international for the past year and has remained in “constant contact” with his representatives, with a transfer potentially happening in the summer.

Maignan is entering the final year of his contract at AC Milan and could be available for just £34 million if he does not sign a new deal. With Milan likely to miss out on next season’s Champions League due to their current position in Serie A, it remains to be seen whether they can secure an extension with the 29-year-old.

A top-tier goalkeeper Mike Maignan is a highly skilled goalkeeper, and Chelsea would secure an excellent deal if they manage to sign him for £34 million. He is a strong leader in defense, effectively organizing the backline, and his distribution skills, both short and long, make him a perfect fit for the Premier League—especially in Enzo Maresca’s system, which focuses on building from the back to break the press.

Maignan’s quick reactions and reliable handling make him a safe option for dealing with close-range saves and set-pieces or crosses from the wings. At 29, he is in the prime of his career and would be a solid medium-term choice for Chelsea, who are in need of a goalkeeper upgrade if they are to mount a serious title challenge next season.
