Liverpool star Darwin Nunez is being tracked by two Premier League clubs ahead of a potential move away from Anfield this summer.
Darwin Núñez’s future at Liverpool remains uncertain as the Uruguayan striker struggles to cement his place in the starting lineup under Arne Slot. After failing to establish himself as a key player under Jürgen Klopp, Núñez has managed only seven goals across all competitions this season, increasing speculation about a summer departure if the right offer arises.
Atlético Madrid has been linked with a move for the former Benfica forward, with Diego Simeone reportedly a fan. However, TeamTalk reports that two Premier League clubs—Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest—have now entered the race for his signature.
Newcastle, wary of a potential departure for Alexander Isak, is monitoring Núñez closely. Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest could challenge them for his signing if they secure Champions League football next season. Despite Chris Wood’s impressive form, manager Nuno Espírito Santo reportedly prioritizes a new striker, with Ademola Lookman and Viktor Gyökeres also on the club’s radar.
If Núñez departs, Liverpool would likely seek a new striker, which aligns with Slot’s vision for his No. 9. The Dutch manager has emphasized the importance of attackers contributing both goals and assists, stating in February:
“Facilitator—nice word, I didn’t know that one yet—and scoring goals himself, that is, again, what we want to achieve in the end. You want attackers and midfielders to score.”
As the summer transfer window approaches, Núñez’s situation will be one to watch, with multiple clubs considering a move for the Liverpool forward.
Arne Slot has made it clear that he expects goal contributions from all areas of the pitch, including midfielders and even center-backs scoring from set pieces.
The Liverpool boss specifically highlighted the No. 9 role, emphasizing that assists alone won’t be enough—his striker must also be a consistent goal scorer.
“That’s what I just said, we are trying to work on the training ground and with the feedback we give them after the game to make the team better and better,” Slot explained. “In the end, the No. 9 should be a facilitator, like a winger, but a winger and a No. 9 should also score goals.”
With Darwin Núñez’s future at Anfield uncertain, Slot’s comments further underline the type of striker he envisions leading Liverpool’s attack.
