Manchester United has reportedly reached a verbal agreement to sign Swedish striker Victor Gyökeres from Sporting Lisbon, with the transfer expected to be finalized in the summer.
Despite United’s struggles in attack this season, the club refrained from making a major signing in January, as talks for Gyökeres were already underway. The 26-year-old, who has been in outstanding form with 34 goals across all competitions, has now agreed to personal terms with the Red Devils.
Gyökeres, who joined Sporting from Coventry City in 2023, quickly established himself as a top striker thanks to his pace and clinical finishing. His goal-scoring exploits have kept him on the radar of Europe’s elite clubs, even amid managerial changes.
Although his contract with Sporting runs until 2028 with a €100 million release clause, reports suggest the Portuguese club is open to negotiating a transfer fee of around €70 million. United sees Gyökeres as a crucial long-term addition, particularly given his success under former Sporting manager Rúben Amorim.
While the deal appears close, financial fair play regulations could influence its finalization, so fans may need to wait for official confirmation before celebrating.
