One of the names recently linked to the club is Liverpool’s Luis Díaz. However, Hansi Flick has reportedly expressed reservations about signing the Colombian forward.
The German coach’s primary concern is Díaz’s age. With the player turning 29 in January 2026, Flick prefers to bring in younger talent with long-term potential. Since taking charge at Barcelona, Flick has emphasized the importance of building a squad with young players to ensure the club’s future competitiveness. Given this strategy, a move for Díaz does not align with his vision.
Despite Díaz’s wealth of experience with Liverpool and the Colombian national team, his signing would require a significant financial investment for a player already at his peak.
Instead, Flick is keen on signing Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams. At just 22 years old, Williams offers room for development and fits Flick’s preference for young talent. His speed, dribbling skills, and playing style also align well with Barcelona’s footballing philosophy.
Additionally, Williams’ strong connections with Barcelona stars like Lamine Yamal and Alejandro Balde, whom he has played alongside for the Spanish national team, could facilitate his adaptation to the squad.
Given these factors, Barcelona appears increasingly focused on securing young talents, with Nico Williams emerging as the club’s top target.
