Liverpool star Darwin Nunez is being tracked by two Premier League clubs ahead of a potential move away from Anfield this summer.
Darwin Núñez has found himself increasingly sidelined at Liverpool, first under Jürgen Klopp and now under Arne Slot, struggling to cement his place as a key player this season.
The Uruguayan striker has managed just seven goals across all competitions, fueling speculation about a summer departure if the right offer arises.
While Atlético Madrid has been strongly linked with Núñez—given Diego Simeone’s reported admiration—two Premier League clubs have now joined the race for his signature.
According to TeamTalk, both Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest are monitoring his situation. Newcastle, fresh off a Carabao Cup victory, may need to replace Alexander Isak, while Forest’s interest hinges on their potential qualification for the Champions League. Despite Chris Wood’s impressive form, Nuno Espírito Santo is eager to bolster his attack, with Ademola Lookman and Viktor Gyökeres also on the shortlist.
Should Núñez depart, Liverpool would likely be forced to bring in a new striker—something that aligns with Slot’s vision for his No.9.
Back in February, Slot emphasized his expectations for Liverpool’s forwards, stating that he wants attackers to contribute not just with goals but also assists.
“‘Facilitator’—nice word, I hadn’t heard that one yet—but also scoring goals himself, that’s the ultimate goal,” he said. “In the end, you want both attackers and midfielders to be scoring.”
With Núñez’s future uncertain, Liverpool’s summer transfer plans could be significantly impacted, making this a situation to watch closely.
Slot emphasized the need for goals from various positions, including center-backs contributing from set-pieces.
However, he made it clear that the No. 9 role carries even greater responsibility, stating that assists alone won’t be enough—his striker must be a consistent goal scorer.
“We are working on the training ground and providing feedback after matches to continually improve the team,” Slot explained. “Ultimately, the No. 9 should be a facilitator, much like a winger, but both wingers and the No. 9 must also score goals.”
This further underscores the expectations for Liverpool’s main striker and could influence their transfer strategy if Núñez departs in the summer.
