Dortmund coach Kovac hopes to hurt Barca with ‘good tool’

Niko Kovac Unveils New Tactics Ahead of Barcelona Clash in Champions League

Borussia Dortmund coach Niko Kovac is confident that he has discovered a potent weapon to take on Barcelona in their upcoming Champions League quarterfinal. Following a 3-1 victory over Mainz, Kovac expressed optimism about his team’s chances against the Spanish giants.

The win over Mainz, who had been unbeaten in their last six matches, provided several reasons for hope. Kovac’s tactical change to a 1-3-4-1-2 formation proved successful, with striker Sebastian Beier stepping up in the absence of the injured Serhou Guirassy. Beier scored a brace, demonstrating a different style compared to Guirassy’s more physical and second-chance creation approach.

“Of course, we miss Guirassy, but I believe Beier and Adeyemi bring a different dynamic. While Serhou is a key player and a specialist in creating second chances, Beier and Adeyemi are more focused on attacking spaces and putting pressure on the opposition. I think it’s a good tool, and I hope we can utilize it in upcoming matches,” Kovac stated.

Kovac also praised Beier for his recent performances, highlighting his growing influence and his ability to execute the team’s tactical plans on the pitch. This season, Beier has contributed eight goals and four assists, underlining his importance to Dortmund’s attack.

In other news, Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl hinted that decisions regarding the futures of players like Jadon Sancho, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, or Karim Adeyemi will depend on where the team finishes at the end of the season. The summer transfer window could see some significant changes based on Dortmund’s final standing in the league.
