Liverpool’s plans for the summer transfer market have taken a turn as one player looking to force their dream move has been dealt a major blow.
With Liverpool on course to secure the 2024/25 Premier League title in Arne Slot’s debut season, Reds fans are already looking ahead to the summer transfer window.
While much of the attention is on potential signings—such as Newcastle’s Alexander Isak and Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez—reports suggest Liverpool will also see significant departures. Among those linked with an exit, one key player has just encountered a major setback.
As the transfer window opens in June, Liverpool’s attacking lineup could undergo a major overhaul, with Darwin Núñez, Diogo Jota, and Luis Díaz all rumored to be on the move to make way for new arrivals. Of the trio, Díaz seemed the most likely to leave, as reports indicated he was open to forcing a transfer to Barcelona if the Spanish club made an offer.
However, Díaz’s hopes of joining the Catalan giants have suffered a serious blow. According to Catalan outlet El Nacional, via Marca, Barcelona has reservations about signing him due to concerns over his age, making a potential move far less likely.
The report reveals that Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has established a clear transfer strategy focused on assembling a younger and revitalized squad.
Unfortunately for Luis Díaz, the German coach does not see the 28-year-old winger as fitting this vision. Instead, Flick is prioritizing younger targets such as Athletic Club’s Nico Williams and Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman.
Díaz’s situation is further complicated by Liverpool’s reported asking price of over €75 million (£62.6 million), a figure deemed excessive for a player not considered essential to their plans.
