Barcelona’s ongoing salary cap issues once again underline a key reality: long-term planning remains a major challenge at Camp Nou under the current financial strain. One clear example is Robert Lewandowski. As he approaches his 37th birthday this summer, it’s evident that he cannot be the club’s long-term solution in attack.
While he has reportedly agreed to a one-year contract extension, his age signals the urgent need for Barcelona to start planning for the future. Ferran Torres has been deployed as a striker at times, but there’s little belief that he’s viewed as a permanent option in that role.
Barcelona have been linked with high-profile forwards like Alexander Isak and Benjamin Šeško, but their hefty price tags and uncertain availability make those transfers complicated. As a result, Moise Kean has surfaced as a more realistic—and potentially valuable—alternative for the club’s attacking rebuild.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via Football Italia, Barcelona are closely monitoring Fiorentina striker Moise Kean, who is finally starting to live up to his early potential. The 25-year-old has been in exceptional form, scoring 21 goals and providing 3 assists in 35 appearances this season. His impressive resurgence has also caught the attention of Newcastle United, who are reportedly considering him as a potential replacement for Alexander Isak.
Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso has confirmed interest from other clubs and noted that Kean has a €52 million release clause, valid between July 1 and July 15. In an interview with Sky Sport Italia, he said:
“I want him to stay, but if he can’t and someone makes an offer, we’ll see. I’ll try to keep him because he’s crucial for Fiorentina.”
Kean, once considered a wonderkid at Juventus, had mixed spells at Everton and PSG before returning to Turin. Last summer, he made a €13 million move to Fiorentina, where he has finally shown the form expected of him. For Barcelona, a player like Kean—young, athletic, and now hitting his peak—could be a smart, cost-effective option to replace Lewandowski in the future, especially if they are unable to secure more expensive targets.
