Thomas Partey Eyes Barcelona Move as Arsenal Exit Looms
Amid growing speculation, Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is reportedly planning to leave the club in the upcoming summer transfer window, with Spanish giants Barcelona emerging as a potential destination.
With Arsenal set to host Real Madrid tonight in a highly anticipated UEFA Champions League quarterfinal at the Emirates Stadium, this fixture could mark one of Partey’s final outings in an Arsenal shirt.
Partey has yet to agree to a contract extension, and with his deal set to expire at the end of the season, he could leave on a free transfer. According to The Mirror, Arsenal is preparing for a major squad overhaul and plans to part ways with up to 11 players, including Partey, Zinchenko, Jorginho, and Tomiyasu.
Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo has reported that Partey is aiming to join Barcelona without a transfer fee, leveraging his expiring contract. While Barcelona has him on their radar, a move is not guaranteed. The club currently has multiple midfielders in similar roles—Marc Casadó, Bernal, and Frenkie de Jong, who has no intention of leaving.
The report suggests that Barcelona might revisit Partey’s signing only if De Jong departs or if they decide to redirect their focus to strengthening other positions, such as right-back—though that’s not Partey’s specialty.
