Mo Salah issues statement as Liverpool break the internet with contract announcement

Liverpool have broken the internet in confirming Mo Salah will be staying at the club after signing a new contract as a respected reporter reveals how much he will be earning.

Salah’s future has been a hot topic throughout the season, with the Egyptian international previously stating he felt “more out than in” at one point. However, negotiations took a positive turn, and on Friday morning, Liverpool confirmed that Salah had signed a new contract, with the announcement reading, “He’s staying,” paired with a picture of Salah on a throne and the phrase, “More in than out.”

Since joining from Roma in 2017, Salah has scored 243 goals for the Reds and is now set to spend a decade at Anfield, with hopes of breaking even more records in the process.

In an article on Liverpool’s official website, Salah shared his reasons for signing the new deal. He expressed his excitement, saying, “Of course, I’m very excited. We have a great team now. Before also we had a great team. But I signed because I think we have a chance to win other trophies and enjoy my football.”

Salah reflected on his time at Liverpool, adding, “It’s great, I had my best years here. I played eight years, hopefully it’s going to be 10. Enjoying my life here, enjoying my football. I had the best years in my career.”

Addressing the fans, he said, “I am very, very happy to be here. I signed here because I believe we can win a lot of big trophies together. Keep supporting us and we’ll give it our best, and hopefully in the future we’re going to win more trophies.”

Under the ownership of Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool had a policy of not offering contract extensions to players over 30. However, due to Salah’s exceptional fitness and stellar performance this season—boasting 32 goals and 22 assists—the club made an exception to this rule.

Mohamed Salah’s new contract will see him earn a significant increase on his previous wages. His last deal saw him pocket a club-record £350,000 per week, and while there were rumors that he might take a pay cut with the new extension, respected journalist Ismael Mahmoud reported that Salah’s weekly pay will actually rise by 12.5%. Mahmoud, who is said to be close to Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, confirmed via X that Salah’s new salary would be a fixed £400,000 per week.

Ben Jacobs of talkSPORT also noted that Salah did not agree to a salary reduction, though he did not provide specifics about his new earnings.

This contract is set to be the most lucrative in Liverpool’s history. However, it still pales in comparison to the staggering £65 million annual offer Salah reportedly received from the Saudi Pro League, highlighting his commitment to European football despite the tempting financial offer.
