Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr ‘facing two-year ban’ from football

Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Junior is being investigated for a major breach of FIFA’s Code of Ethics, and he could face a career-defining two-year ban.

Vinicius Jr Facing Potential FIFA Ban Amid Ethics Investigation

There’s no denying Vinicius Jr’s rise to global football stardom in recent years. Since joining Real Madrid from Flamengo in 2018, the Brazilian winger has become one of the world’s elite, winning 14 major trophies—including two Champions League titles and three La Liga crowns.

However, Real Madrid could soon be forced to consider a future without their star forward. According to reports, Vinicius is currently under investigation for a possible breach of FIFA’s Code of Ethics—an offense that could result in a suspension of up to two years.

The 24-year-old has been pivotal for Carlo Ancelotti’s side this season, scoring 21 goals and providing 15 assists in 47 appearances. His current deal runs until 2027, and with a market value hovering around $200 million (£150 million), Real have reportedly been considering extending his contract.

But complications have emerged. As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Vinicius is being accused of involvement in the acquisition of professional football clubs through ALL Agenciamento Esportivo, a company operated by his father and agent.

The complaint was lodged by Tiberis Holding do Brasil, a Brazilian investment group that previously owned a 16.5% stake in Athletic Club of São João del Rei—a team recently promoted to Brazil’s Serie B. Tiberis has asked FIFA’s Ethics Committee to investigate and impose a suspension.

As FIFA reviews the complaint, the football world will be watching closely. Should the allegations be proven, Vinicius could face significant consequences, casting uncertainty over both his future at Real Madrid and his status in the global game.

The controversy escalated after Athletic Club’s recent promotion, when Tiberis owner Willy Francese attempted to exercise his right of first refusal to acquire a majority stake in the club. However, those shares were instead sold directly to ALL Agenciamento Esportivo—the company linked to Vinicius Jr.

This prompted the commercial court in São Paulo to temporarily suspend the deal, citing the need for a formal investigation into the transaction. Despite the legal proceedings, ALL has reportedly assumed operational control of the club, sparking outrage from Tiberis.

Tiberis argues that the sale constitutes a violation of Article 20 of FIFA’s Code of Ethics, as well as Article 22 of the Spanish Football Federation’s Code of Sports Justice. Both regulations strictly forbid active professional players from owning, either directly or indirectly, stakes in football clubs.

As the investigation continues, the potential consequences for Vinicius could be severe. A ruling in favor of the complaint could not only impact his playing career but also set a precedent regarding player involvement in club ownership.
