Dembele scenario is repeated again: The player refuses to renew his contract with Barça and is secretly negotiating with Paris Saint-Germain to leave for free

Barcelona Faces Another Transfer Crisis as Frenkie de Jong Rejects Contract Extension

Barcelona is facing a potential repeat of the Ousmane Dembélé situation, as star midfielder Frenkie de Jong reportedly turns down all contract extension offers from the club. Much like Dembélé, who rejected multiple offers and moved to Paris Saint-Germain for a higher salary, De Jong is said to be seeking a more lucrative financial package elsewhere.

De Jong’s current contract runs until 2026, making him the highest-paid player at Barcelona. Initially, the club hoped to negotiate an extension involving a pay cut, but the Dutchman has firmly rejected these proposals.

According to El Nacional, Barcelona is concerned that De Jong may already be in talks with other clubs, possibly even having a verbal agreement in place. The club is eager to avoid another free transfer debacle, as they did with Dembélé. Having paid over €85 million for De Jong from Ajax five years ago, losing him for free would be a significant blow.

Paris Saint-Germain, who benefited from Dembélé’s move last summer, is once again monitoring the situation closely. If De Jong were to leave on a free transfer, he would be able to command a higher salary and a significant signing bonus, with PSG and Nasser Al-Khelaifi positioned to capitalize on Barcelona’s financial struggles, just as they have with previous stars like Neymar and Messi.
