Chelsea star Cole Palmer has made his feelings clear on Liverpool amid being linked with a shock summer transfer to the new Premier League champions.

Chelsea’s Cole Palmer has emerged as a surprise transfer target for Premier League heavyweights Liverpool and Manchester City, according to journalist Simon Phillips via his Substack. Both clubs are reportedly “sniffing around” the attacking midfielder ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window, with City already making an enquiry about a potential move.
Palmer enjoyed a stellar start to the season under new Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, tallying 13 goals and six assists before the turn of the year. However, his output has notably declined in 2025, registering just one goal since January 14—a strike in the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth—raising questions about his role in Maresca’s evolving system.
In a recent Telegraph column, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher weighed in on the speculation, stating that Palmer should at least be on Liverpool’s radar, despite acknowledging the unlikelihood of a deal.
“It surprises me that no one has argued that Palmer should be on the new champions’ radar,” Carragher wrote. “Far-fetched? Too expensive? Most likely. Liverpool ‘going big’ for footballers already on mammoth and long contracts isn’t their usual strategy.”
Indeed, Palmer’s contractual situation poses a significant hurdle. The 22-year-old is tied to Chelsea until 2032, having signed a record-breaking nine-year deal following his move from Manchester City last summer.
Interestingly, Palmer himself has previously spoken about the significance of playing at Anfield and his awareness of the historic rivalry between Liverpool and his hometown, Manchester.
“As a boy from Manchester, you’re aware of the relationship between both cities. It’s a bit of a rivalry,” Palmer said in October. “Everyone knows what their stadium is like, what their fans are like and what their team is like.”
With uncertainty surrounding his position at Chelsea and growing interest from elite clubs, Palmer could become one of the more intriguing storylines of the summer transfer window—if his long-term contract doesn’t keep him firmly grounded at Stamford Bridge.
