Barcelona scouts watch Porto’s Samu Aghehowa – reports

Barcelona’s pursuit of Samu Aghehowa signals a clear intent to reshape their attacking line for the future, especially as Robert Lewandowski nears the end of his career. Aghehowa’s 24 goals in 40 matches at just 21 years old is a remarkable return, especially in a competitive league like the Primeira Liga.

The €100 million release clause, however, is a serious obstacle—especially for a club like Barcelona still recovering financially. While they could try to negotiate a lower fee, Porto’s strong negotiating stance and long contract mean this will likely be a drawn-out and expensive pursuit. Moreover, interest from other top European clubs could push his price up even further.

Barcelona’s strategy—to bring Aghehowa in while Lewandowski is still around—makes sense. It offers a natural transition period, similar to what they once envisioned with Suárez and Griezmann. The fact that Aghehowa could link up with international teammates at Barça adds an extra layer of appeal from a chemistry standpoint.

If Aghehowa proves unattainable, Jonathan David is a solid Plan B: proven in Ligue 1, versatile, and already on the radar of multiple big clubs. However, he lacks the same “ceiling” that Aghehowa seems to promise.
