Four clubs ‘join race’ to sign Darwin Nunez from Liverpool as Arne Slot makes decision on his future

Darwin Nunez has had mixed fortunes since his record move to the Premier League.

Darwin Núñez has scored 25 Premier League goals during his time at Liverpool, but many believe he could have netted double that amount over his two seasons at Anfield.

The Uruguayan striker’s future remains uncertain, with Liverpool reportedly open to offers—especially given that he has started only eight league matches since Arne Slot took over from Jürgen Klopp last summer.

Despite this, the 25-year-old still carries the attributes that initially made him a high-profile signing, and several clubs are expected to express interest when the transfer window opens.

According to The Express, citing Corriere dello Sport, Napoli are seriously considering a move for Núñez. Club president Aurelio De Laurentiis is said to be eager to strengthen the team’s attacking options as manager Antonio Conte targets the Serie A title.

Currently leading Serie A by three points over Champions League finalists Inter Milan, Napoli are keen to increase their goal output from the striker position. While Romelu Lukaku has scored 12 goals this season and Scott McTominay has chipped in with 11 from midfield, more firepower is seen as essential.

Napoli view Núñez as a key addition to maintain their momentum, alongside other targets such as Jonathan David (Lille), Samuel Omorodion (FC Porto), and Lee Kang-In (PSG).

Atletico Madrid are also reportedly monitoring Núñez as they look to enhance their forward line, which already includes Norwegian striker Alexander Sørloth—who recently netted four goals in a single La Liga match for the second time.

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone already has several attacking options at his disposal, including former Manchester City forward Julián Álvarez and Antoine Griezmann, who has contributed eight league goals this season.

However, Darwin Núñez might be considering opportunities beyond Europe as well.

Reports suggest that a potential move to the Saudi Pro League could be on the horizon, particularly with uncertainty surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at Al Nassr. This opens the door for a possible transfer to Riyadh, where interest in Núñez may be growing.

Additionally, Goal has mentioned the possibility of Núñez returning to South America, with Argentine giants River Plate reportedly monitoring the situation.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s farewell tour under Jürgen Klopp continues with Sunday’s home match against Arsenal, followed by fixtures against Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace to close out the season.
