Bukayo Saka Issues Apology After Kostas Tsimikas Suffers Broken Collarbone in Liverpool-Arsenal Clash

During a high-stakes Premier League showdown between Liverpool and Arsenal at Anfield in December 2023, a moment of misfortune turned the focus from goals to injury. The Gunners came into the match leading the table, with Liverpool close behind in second—a true title-contenders clash.

The match started with intensity, as Gabriel Magalhães gave Arsenal the lead within the first four minutes. Mohamed Salah equalised before halftime, ensuring both sides remained level in terms of goals, but not in terms of luck.

The most distressing incident occurred off the pitch. In a chaotic moment involving Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp, Kostas Tsimikas collided with Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, leading to a serious shoulder injury. Tsimikas, in obvious pain, was substituted and replaced by Joe Gomez. He was later rushed to the hospital, where scans confirmed a fractured collarbone.

After learning about the extent of Tsimikas’ injury, Bukayo Saka addressed the situation in a post-match interview with Sky Sports, expressing his remorse:

> “I heard he’s gone to the hospital, so I just want to apologise. Of course, I didn’t mean to injure him. It looked like a 50/50 challenge and we went shoulder to shoulder.”

Saka’s apology, although heartfelt, came in the wake of a moment that will linger in the memory of both clubs’ fans—not for the title race implications, but for the unfortunate injury to a key player.

This incident highlighted the physical toll of top-flight football and the thin line between competitive intensity and unintended consequences.
