Hansi Flick after Barcelona’s 4-3 win over Real Madrid: ‘We need to improve a lot, especially in defense

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick expressed pride in his teamโ€™s thrilling 4-3 comeback win over Real Madrid, a result that opened a seven-point lead atop La Liga with only three games left.

โ€œThis victory is for the fans and the playersโ€”itโ€™s fantastic,โ€ Flick said after the match. โ€œMadrid are a top team. Coming back from 0-2, especially after playing over 120 minutes in Milan, wasnโ€™t easy. Iโ€™ll need to check my heart after that one.โ€

Despite the crucial win, Flick acknowledged the teamโ€™s defensive vulnerabilities. โ€œWe still have a lot to improve defensively. Our pressing worked well, but mistakesโ€”like the one leading to their first goalโ€”complicate things. The team is making good collective decisions, but itโ€™s hard to work on everything when matches come every three days. Weโ€™re already thinking ahead to preseason for that.โ€

He also commended the teamโ€™s fighting spirit and the contributions from substitutes. โ€œManaging the entire squad isnโ€™t simple, but the players show great energy. They love to train, play, and compete. When thereโ€™s intensity in training, it carries over into the game.โ€

Flick highlighted Ferran Torresโ€™ standout performance and noted Robert Lewandowskiโ€™s promising return from injury. โ€œFerran was excellent, and itโ€™s great to see Robert playing at this level again after his injury.โ€

On the title race, Flick remained grounded: โ€œWeโ€™re not champions yet. Winning three titles would be incredible, but we still need one more victory.โ€

Barcelonaโ€™s dramatic El Clasico triumph brings them within touching distance of the league title, though Flick remains focused on maintaining momentum and tightening up the teamโ€™s defense.
