Real Madrid seal Alonso deal, target Trent, new CB, and LB ahead of Club World Cup
Full Story:
Real Madrid have officially reached an agreement with Xabi Alonso to become their next manager, per Fabrizio Romano. The Spaniard, currently at Bayer Leverkusen, will step in once Carlo Ancelotti departs for Brazil after the La Liga season ends. Alonso has signed a three-year deal until 2028 and will take over before the FIFA Club World Cup kicks off on June 14.
Meanwhile, Los Blancos are already plotting a triple reinforcement:
Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to join on a free transfer once his Liverpool contract expires, and Madrid are pushing to bring him before the Club World Cup.
A new centre-back is on the agenda due to recurring injury woes at the back.
A new left-back is also a priority with both Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia failing to impress.
On the other hand, Carlo Ancelotti’s switch to Brazil is now official. The CBF confirmed he will take charge on May 26, right after Madrid’s final game vs Real Sociedad. He will lead the Seleção into World Cup qualifiers in June.
Madrid’s summer is set to be explosive—new manager, marquee signings, and a new tactical direction under one of their legendary former midfielders.
