Barcelona will lose one of its two midfield gems… Gavi or Fermín, one of them will leave inevitably!

Barcelona Faces Difficult Decision Between Gavi and Fermín as Financial Pressures Mount

Barcelona has managed to generate considerable revenue thanks to strong performances this season. However, the club’s failure to reach the Champions League final has dealt a financial blow, prompting President Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco to seek additional funds—mainly through player sales.

According to El Nacional, the club is considering offloading several players who are no longer key to the squad or whose contracts are nearing expiration. While names like Ansu Fati, Ronald Araújo, Andreas Christensen, and Frenkie de Jong are under review, attention is also turning to young midfielders Gavi and Fermín López.

Gavi, once a central figure under Xavi and a fan favorite, has seen his role diminish following a serious knee injury. Still not back to full fitness, his long-term future at the club is uncertain, and a substantial transfer offer could tempt Barcelona to sell.

Fermín, meanwhile, reportedly feels sidelined, especially with the recent arrival of Dani Olmo, who has been prioritized in the starting XI. This growing dissatisfaction raises the likelihood that either Gavi or Fermín will depart during the upcoming transfer window.

Manager Hansi Flick has made his preference clear: he is keen to keep Gavi, with whom he shares a close relationship. Flick believes Gavi can return to his best once fully recovered, while his connection with Fermín appears more distant.

Ultimately, financial necessity and squad reshuffling may force Barcelona to part with one of its most promising young midfielders.
