Barcelona will lose one of its two midfield gems… Gavi or Fermín, one of them will leave inevitably

Barcelona Faces a Tough Choice Between Gavi and Fermín Amid Financial Struggles

Despite strong performances this season that boosted revenue, FC Barcelona suffered a financial setback by missing out on the Champions League final. As a result, club president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco are under pressure to raise additional funds—primarily through player sales.

According to El Nacional, while the spotlight is on the potential exits of Ansu Fati, Ronald Araújo, Andreas Christensen, and Frenkie de Jong—either because they no longer fit into Hansi Flick’s plans or due to expiring contracts—the futures of Gavi and Fermín López are now also uncertain.

Both midfielders, once seen as rising stars, have not fully lived up to expectations this season and have found themselves in supporting roles. The most concerning case is that of Gavi, a fan favorite and former starter under Xavi, whose momentum was halted by a serious knee injury over a year ago. Still recovering, Gavi is far from his peak form, raising doubts about his place in the squad.

There is growing speculation that Barcelona might sell Gavi if a strong offer comes in. The young midfielder believes he has done enough to earn a consistent role—especially given his impactful appearances off the bench.

Meanwhile, Fermín López is reportedly frustrated by being sidelined in favor of new signing Dani Olmo, and sees his path to the starting eleven blocked. With both players eyeing more minutes, it appears inevitable that one of them will leave in the next transfer window.

Coach Hansi Flick reportedly favors Gavi, citing a close personal relationship and belief in his long-term potential. Flick is confident that Gavi can return to elite form once he regains full fitness. In contrast, his rapport with Fermín is reportedly less developed.

In the end, Barcelona may have no choice but to part with one of their young midfield talents to meet financial goals and reshape the squad.
