Barcelona president Joan Laporta has all but confirmed that the club has moved on from pursuing Nico Williams as a transfer target. “Nico Williams was one of our targets \[last summer]. In the end, we decided to go for Dani Olmo,” Laporta stated, before adding, “At the moment, I think the sporting management is considering other options.”
These remarks strongly suggest that Barcelona have ended their interest in the Athletic Club winger. Instead of focusing on wide attacking reinforcements, the Blaugrana are now prioritizing strengthening their full-back positions and midfield depth in the current transfer window.
Laporta also emphasized the club’s belief in rising star Lamine Yamal, stating: “Barcelona is the best club for Lamine Yamal. He is destined to be the best in the world.” This reinforces the idea that the club sees Yamal as a key figure in their long-term plans, reducing the urgency to sign a new winger this summer.
