Alvaro Carreras set for Bernabéu return after breakthrough Benfica season
Real Madrid are closing in on a deal to sign Álvaro Carreras, the former Manchester United left-back, after he reportedly agreed personal terms with the club. The 22-year-old Spaniard has impressed at Benfica this season with 4 goals and 5 assists in 49 games, catching the eye of incoming manager Xabi Alonso, who personally requested his signing.
Carreras, once part of Madrid’s youth setup, left United permanently in 2024 after multiple loan spells. Despite Manchester United retaining a £15m buy-back clause, Madrid would have to meet his full £42.1m release clause.
