Though Marc-André ter Stegen remains the clear first-choice keeper, concerns over his recent long-term injury have pushed the club to consider bringing in a dependable backup.
According to Mundo Deportivo, manager Hansi Flick has expressed a strong interest in signing Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny, seeing him as a key figure in his vision for the club’s European ambitions. Szczęsny impressed during a recent El Clásico—where Barcelona triumphed 4–3 over Real Madrid—and has reportedly received a two-year contract offer from the club. However, the Juventus goalkeeper has yet to accept, stating he’ll consult with his wife before making a final decision.
Meanwhile, current third-choice keeper Iñaki Peña faces an uncertain future. With Szczęsny potentially arriving, Peña’s chances of moving up the pecking order could be blocked, prompting him to explore opportunities elsewhere for more regular playing time.
Barcelona is also monitoring Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martínez. The 32-year-old Argentine, a standout performer with Villa and his national team, is attracting attention across Europe and from Saudi Arabian clubs offering substantial contracts.
