Mo Salah brutally trolled Man United on Twitter after their defeat to Tottenham

Mohamed Salah Trolls Manchester United After Europa League Final Loss to Spurs

Mohamed Salah didn’t hold back following Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Europa League final on May 21, 2025, in Bilbao. The Liverpool star sparked a social media storm with a pointed post on X that appeared to mock United while congratulating Spurs, fueling fan debates and adding to United’s growing woes.

Tottenham’s win, sealed by Brennan Johnson’s first-half goal from a Pape Matar Sarr assist, ended a 17-year trophy drought. United, led by manager Ruben Amorim, offered little in attack and were criticized for their flat, predictable play. The result marked United’s second loss in a Europa League final in four years and extended their dismal run against Spurs, who have now beaten them in all four meetings this season. For a side languishing in 16th in the Premier League, the defeat was another bitter setback.

Just minutes after the final whistle, Salah took to X with a sarcastic post: “He did say he’d win in his second season. Congratulations!” While seemingly praising Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou—known for winning trophies in his second year at multiple clubs—the message was widely interpreted as a jab at United and their failed season. Given Salah’s reputation and the deep rivalry between Liverpool and United, fans and pundits praised the post as a masterclass in subtle trolling.

The context only made the dig sharper. Salah had scored in Liverpool’s 5-1 demolition of Spurs on April 27, a result that secured the Premier League title and saw the Reds equal United’s record of 20 top-flight titles. His now-famous selfie with the Kop from that night became a viral symbol of Liverpool’s dominance. Salah also scored in both league games against Tottenham this season, solidifying his role in their struggles.

United’s defeat has intensified scrutiny of Amorim, whose intense work ethic has yet to yield results. Under pressure from INEOS’s cost-cutting ownership and dealing with internal discord, United’s season has gone from bad to worse. Tottenham, by contrast, salvaged theirs with their first European trophy in over 40 years and a place in next season’s Champions League—even as they hover just above the relegation zone in the league.

Salah’s post quickly went viral. Outlets like SPORTbible described it as “breaking the internet,” with fans flooding social media with reactions. One post read, “Nice one Salah. The whole world of football was rooting for Spurs except Man U and Arsenal fans lol. I guess Salah told them how to dunk on Man U.”

As Liverpool prepare to lift the Premier League trophy on Sunday, Salah’s post adds another layer of joy for Reds fans and a painful sting for United supporters, cementing his legacy not just as a footballing icon, but as a skilled provocateur in football’s fiercest rivalries.
