James Ready for “High-Class” Battle as Chelsea Face Real Betis in European Final
Chelsea captain Reece James is bracing for a “high-class” showdown as the Blues prepare to face Real Betis in the final of a major European competition. With silverware on the line and both teams stacked with top-tier talent, James is embracing the challenge.
The 25-year-old right-back, who has returned to full fitness after a challenging injury spell, spoke confidently during his pre-match press conference, highlighting the quality of the opposition and the significance of the occasion.
“The game is going to be a high-class game against a high-class opposition who have a number of high-class players,” James said. “But we will set up strong and set out to win.”
Betis, led by veteran manager Manuel Pellegrini, boast a squad that includes Giovani Lo Celso, Isco, and Antony — all players with a pedigree at the highest level. The Spanish side defeated Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid during their domestic campaign and have been widely praised for their stylish and effective football.
James emphasized that Chelsea are not taking anything for granted, despite entering the final as slight favourites.
“The message from our manager has been clear from day one. You can’t neglect any competition you are in, and you need to give it your all,” he said. “At the end of the day, it’s another huge European competition. Just look at the game tomorrow — it’s against a big team with a big history.”
Caicedo the Engine Behind Chelsea’s Midfield
James also took a moment to heap praise on Moises Caicedo, the Ecuadorian midfielder who has been one of Chelsea’s standout performers this season. Caicedo was recently named both Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season, a testament to his consistency and impact.
“When [Moises] first arrived, he found it difficult, from what he told me,” James admitted. “But this season he has grown so much as a person and a player — and his English is getting better, which helps!”
“He’s key to our team. He’s the only player to have played every Premier League game this season. I think that shows how much and how well he has done.”
With Caicedo anchoring the midfield, Cole Palmer’s creativity, and James leading from the back, Chelsea look poised to end the season on a high note — potentially with silverware and Champions League qualification already secured.
The final promises to be a tactical and technical battle between two of Europe’s most compelling teams, and for James, it’s an opportunity to lead Chelsea to glory on the continental stage once again.
