FC Barcelona has been active recently—after finalizing Lamine Yamal’s contract extension and facilitating Ansu Fati’s exit, the club is now focused on reinforcing the squad.
According to SPORT, sporting director Deco met with Marcus Rashford’s agent this week at a hotel in Barcelona to discuss a potential move for the Manchester United forward.
Barcelona had previously shown interest in Rashford during the January transfer window, but financial limitations tied to La Liga’s fair play regulations made a loan move unfeasible at that time.
Now, with their primary target Luis Díaz deemed too costly, the Catalan club is considering more budget-friendly options—placing Rashford back on their radar. The club values his abilities, but what makes the deal attractive is the financial feasibility. A loan deal with a purchase option appears to be the most realistic scenario.
From Barça’s perspective, the move presents a low-risk opportunity: if Rashford excels, a permanent transfer in 2026 could follow; if not, they can walk away without significant financial loss.
Although Marcus Rashford is under contract with Manchester United until 2028, he seems ready to leave both Old Trafford and England in search of a fresh start. His loan stint at Aston Villa this season showed glimpses of his talent, but a late injury derailed his momentum. With Villa failing to secure Champions League football, they’re unlikely to retain him.
Manchester United are reportedly willing to part ways with Rashford for around €40 million, as he doesn’t fit into the plans of incoming manager Rúben Amorim. Barcelona is monitoring the situation closely and believes a favorable deal is possible—especially if Rashford turns down other offers and remains patient.
Crucially, Rashford is open to reducing his wages to facilitate the move, an important factor given Barça’s ongoing financial constraints. His agent’s recent meeting with sporting director Deco confirmed that both sides share a mutual interest and are proceeding with caution.
New Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has already greenlit the potential signing. He appreciates Rashford’s pace, direct approach, and versatility—being able to play both out wide and through the middle. Flick has emphasized the need for more options on the left flank and added firepower in attack, making Rashford an ideal candidate.
After a fruitless wait in January, this summer may finally deliver the move Rashford has been seeking.
