Insider confirms Florian Wirtz arrival won’t impact Liverpool efforts to sign Newcastle man

Liverpool are reportedly closing in on three summer signings—Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, and Florian Wirtz—as new head coach Arne Slot prepares for his debut season. However, the club may still look to add another attacker to the squad.

One potential target is winger Anthony Gordon, who is also on Arsenal’s radar. Despite Newcastle qualifying for the Champions League, there’s a possibility Gordon could move on, and Liverpool would be keen to make a move if he becomes available.

According to former scout Mick Brown, Liverpool still have Gordon in their sights. “He’s been a top target for a while. He’s a local boy, previously with Everton, and the club knows him well,” Brown told Football Insider.

Even with a major deal for Wirtz reportedly close, Liverpool remain interested in Gordon. The departure of players like Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, or Darwin Núñez could create space for Gordon to join. If those players stay, signing both Gordon and Wirtz may be unnecessary. But if one or more leave, Gordon is seen as a potential direct replacement.

Although Newcastle are under no obligation to sell and view Gordon as a key player, there is still optimism that the England international could end up at Anfield this summer.
