Frimpong Set for Liverpool Switch as Transfer Nears Completion

Jeremie Frimpong is on the verge of becoming a Liverpool player, with Fabrizio Romano confirming that all paperwork is signed and only the official announcement remains. The Dutch right-back has earned a reputation as one of Europe’s most dynamic attacking full-backs during his time at Bayer Leverkusen.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold preparing to leave the club on a free transfer, Frimpong emerged as a natural fit. Romano reports that Liverpool will pay around €35 million for the 23-year-old—a fee widely seen as a bargain considering the circumstances.

Frimpong’s attacking prowess stood out during Leverkusen’s title-winning 2023/24 season, where he operated primarily as a wing-back and contributed heavily in both goals and assists. While his style differs from Alexander-Arnold’s, his creativity and high energy make him a valuable addition to Arne Slot’s side.

Liverpool writer Peter Kenny Jones noted that Frimpong will face pressure to perform, particularly with Conor Bradley already a fan favorite. However, given Bradley’s injury concerns, bringing in another right-back was a sensible move.

Although Frimpong isn’t known for traditional defensive play, his potential partnership with Mohamed Salah on the right flank is generating excitement. Overall, the move is viewed as a smart and forward-looking decision by the club.

Liverpool’s summer activity may not end there. Reports suggest they’re close to finalizing a deal for Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz, who has allegedly turned down other top clubs in favor of a five-year contract at Anfield.

If both transfers go through, Liverpool could secure two of Leverkusen’s key players, adding a fresh and explosive edge to their squad for the 2024/25 season.
