Frimpong to Liverpool All But Confirmed, Wirtz Deal Also Advancing
Liverpool are on the verge of finalizing the signing of Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, with all documents signed and an official announcement expected shortly, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Dutch right-back has been one of Europe’s standout attacking full-backs, impressing with his explosive pace, creativity, and consistent output. His strong form during Leverkusen’s 2023/24 Bundesliga title-winning campaign made him an ideal target for Arne Slot’s Liverpool.
Frimpong’s arrival comes at a pivotal time, as Trent Alexander-Arnold prepares to leave the club on a free transfer. Liverpool have reportedly secured Frimpong’s services for around €35 million, a fee considered excellent value given the market and the player’s upside.
Known for his attacking flair and ability to play as a wing-back, Frimpong contributed double-digit goals and assists last season. While replacing Alexander-Arnold’s vision and passing range won’t be easy, Frimpong offers a different, high-octane dimension that could suit Slot’s evolving tactical setup.
Liverpool journalist Peter Kenny Jones noted that expectations will be high for Frimpong, especially given the presence of fan-favorite Conor Bradley in the squad. However, Bradley’s injury concerns made adding another right-back a priority for the club.
Though Frimpong may not be a traditional defender, his potential link-up with Mohamed Salah on the right flank has fans excited. Overall, the move is being hailed as shrewd business by Liverpool’s recruitment team.
In addition to Frimpong, Liverpool are reportedly making progress in their pursuit of Florian Wirtz, another Leverkusen star. Multiple sources indicate the German midfielder has turned down other offers and is closing in on a five-year deal with the Reds.
If completed, the dual arrival of Frimpong and Wirtz would mark a major statement of intent from Liverpool as they aim to retool under Slot and mount a serious challenge across all competitions next season.
