Allegri Returns to AC Milan, Eyes Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo as Key Signing
AC Milan has officially entered a new chapter following the departure of head coach Sérgio Conceição. In a decisive move, the club has chosen Massimiliano Allegri to lead their next project — a familiar face returning with ambitions to restore the Rossoneri to domestic and European glory.
According to multiple Italian outlets, Allegri has already begun shaping his vision for the squad. One of his first major transfer requests is a top-tier central defender, with Ronald Araujo of Barcelona emerging as his top target.
Allegri views Araujo as the perfect defensive anchor for his system, citing the Uruguayan’s strength, tactical discipline, and leadership. Araujo’s reputation as one of Europe’s premier defenders has also drawn attention from clubs like Bayern Munich and Manchester United.
However, Barcelona’s stance is firm. New head coach Hansi Flick has made it clear that Araujo is a key part of his plans, calling the defender “untouchable.” The Catalan giants would only consider parting with Araujo if they received an offer in excess of €60 million, a fee Milan is unlikely to afford under Serie A’s financial constraints.
Despite rumors about his future following Xavi Hernández’s exit, Araujo has publicly reaffirmed his commitment to Barcelona. His current contract runs until 2031, and he remains dedicated to helping the club reclaim top honors.
While Allegri’s appointment could signal an aggressive transfer strategy, prying Araujo from Camp Nou appears highly improbable. Milan may need to explore more attainable options to meet their new manager’s expectations.
