Raphinha: ‘I’m not obsessed with winning Ballon d’Or but I’d be super happy if I win’

Raphinha Reacts to Ballon d’Or Nomination, Hopes Winner Is from Barcelona

Barcelona winger Raphinha has expressed his surprise and pride at being named a Ballon d’Or candidate, describing the recognition as something he never imagined in his career. Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, the Brazilian opened up about the honor and his hopes that the prestigious award finds its way to Barcelona’s training ground, Ciutat Esportiva.

“I’m doing well, but it’s not something I obsess over,” Raphinha said. “Never in my life did I think I’d be on that list — among the top ten in the world. If I’m there, it’s thanks to this season. Confidence takes you places you never thought you’d go. Last season, I didn’t even consider it. But because of my performances this year, I’m now in contention for the biggest individual award in football. Just being nominated feels like a win.”

When asked who he wants to win the award, Raphinha replied, “Whoever wins, I hope it’s someone from the Ciutat Esportiva.”
Pressed further on whether that would make him happy, he responded with a smile: “Yes, yes. I’d be super happy.”
